AMIGA project partner, University of Reading, participated in the 16th International Consortium on Applied Bioeconomy Research (ICABR) Conference – 128th EAAE Seminar, The Political Economy of the Bioeconomy: Biotechnology and Biofuel that took place in Ravello, Italy on the 24th-27th June 2012.

The presentation was taken by Prof. J.R Park with the support of Dr. I. D. McFarlen and was entitled “GMs in Europe: Reflections on the Economic Consequences”. This was a chance to show the very first results of the ongoing research work within the framework of AMIGA project and the future developments as far as the economic impacts are concerned.

The second presentation “An economic model of transgenic crop adoption” was made by Dr. I. D. McFarlen (in collaboration with Prof. J.R Park) and aimed at discussing the first economic model iteration, mainly to gather initial comments and feedback from the participants, as University of Reading team will further develop and validate the model. The economic modeling is one of the central parts in the AMIGA project research work and the conference gathered a very targeted audience that allowed AMIGA partners to give high visibility to the project’s activities.

This 16th edition of the ICABR Annual Conference addressed the growing concern about global climate change. This global challenge has also driven demand for biofuels that reduce GHG emissions and for environmental services such as carbon sequestration from agriculture. Climate change is also likely to significantly affect agricultural and biofuel production and biotechnologies have the potential to contribute to agriculture’s adaptation to climate change.
