AMIGA leader of WP2 (Biogeographic regions and protection goals) and Management Board member Dr. Gabor Lovei from Aarhus University, Denmark, was invited by the National Agricultural Research and Advisory Organisation, INTA, Cordoba, Argentina, for several activities linked to GM risk assessment.
On 25th of September 2012, INTA organised a one-day special workshop on environmental risk assessment of GM crops held at the Catholic University of Cordoba, and attended by representatives from various INTA research institutes, the university, and from Monsanto Argentina.
Dr. Daniela Tosto, from INTA, the Argentinean partner of AMIGA, also attended this workshop.
The training course was held between 26th – 29th of September by Dr. Gabor Lovei with assistance from Dr. Eva Vincze (Aarhus University, Dept. Plant Molecular Biology). The course aimed to give INTA scientific personnel basis to deepen the knowledge on GM risk assessment, concentrating on environmental risk assessment. A positive feedback came from the participants, including twenty-one Argentinean colleagues from INTA personnel and Monsanto Argentina.
On the 3rd – 5th of October 2012, Dr. Gabor Lovei was an invited speaker at the Argentinean Jornadas Phytosanitarias, the National Plant Protection conference, where on the 5th of October he gave a talk on “An ecological view of the environmental consequences of growing transgenic plants“. The event ended with a roundtable discussion on the GM crop situation in Argentina, in which Dr. Gabor Lovei participated giving his contribution.
