AMIGA project meetings
After the kick-off meeting in Matera, Italy, AMIGA consortium met in Madrid, Spain, Trisaia, Italy and Wageningen, The Netherlands.
AMIGA field studies
The scientific activities will consist of case studies of maize and potato, the two GM crops currently approved for cultivation in the EU, and surveys in non-GM agro-ecosystems.
Pollinators
One of the activities of the project consists of assessing potential risks of genetically modified (GM) crops to important pollinator species and highly relevant Non-Target Organisms and the related ecosystem service of pollination.
Laboratory studies
Laboratory bioassays will be completed to assess the GM-specific effects of different biological parameters. Other studies will include the development of laboratory test systems that could be used for standard testing of the impact of GM crops (maize and potatoes) of selected European biogeographic regions (Atlantic, Balkan, Mediterranean and boreal and central regions) on respective focal species.
Summer School 2015
Other activities
Measuring predation pressure as an ecosystem service using artificial caterpillars. In order to evaluate the impact of GM plants on this important ecosystem service, Aarhus University is testing, as part of the AMIGA project, the use of artificial caterpillars to find out if this method can be a suitable monitoring tool.
Summer School 2014
Two Summer Schools are organised within the framework of AMIGA project to coincide with the cultivation of the specific GM crops. The Summer Schools will take place in the regions of the experimental test fields and will last one week each. The content will address early-career researchers (i.e under-/post-graduate students, post-docs) in the field of environmental risk assessment (ERA).
