In the next months the coordinator of AMIGA project, Dr Salvatore Arpaia, project coordinator within the leading institution ENEA, will represent the project in a series of conferences and events related to environmental risk assessment of genetically modified crops issues.

On February 19 – 20 Dr Arpaia will give a presentation during the meeting of the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) Environmental Working Group in Berlin, where he will focus on the AMIGA contribution to the practical implementation of the EFSA guidelines on the environmental risk assessment of genetically modified crops in Europe. In particular, the first results, which concern the selection of “focal species” for the risk assessment in the maize and potato crops, will be shown to the attendees for discussion, together with a draft of the statistical model describing experimental data in agro-ecosystems.

On February 27 – 28, AMIGA will be hosted by the “EuropaBio workshop on environmental risk assessment of GM crops in practice”, event organized by the EuropaBio Working Group (ERAG) in Brussels to present the application of the EFSA guidelines on environmental risk assessment of genetically modified crops.

Finally, on the 3rd – 5th of June, an AMIGA project overview will be presented by Dr Arpaia as part of the “Sixth Meeting of the IOBC / WPRS working group on GMOs in the integrated plant production” taking place in Berlin. The conference is one of the most important scientific events specialized biosafety of GMOs in Europe, and therefore an interesting opportunity for AMIGA to exchange visions with the participants and discuss related issues.
